Adele - Skyfall

  • Its was released on 5 October 2012 as part of the "Global James Bond Day" (celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first James Bond film)
  • Went to number one at the UK's iTunes online store less than ten hours after it was released
  • After Skyfall was released in cinemas in North America, Adele's song saw a sales increase of 66%
  • First Bond song to sell a million digital copies

Adele is also signed to Columbia records that is owned by Sony Music Entertainment that is owned by the parent company Sony. - shows how ownership allows conglomerates to make the most profit as they have different companies across the different stages of the film industry

Synergy: Heineken

  • There was product placement of Heineken in the film
  • Heineken has been involved with the last five Bond films but this is the first time that the actor playing the secret agent will be directly involved.
  • James Bond has always drunk Vodka Martinis 'shaken, not stirred'  but for Skyfall, Bond swaps the vodka martinis for a Heineken beer.
  • This Heineken deal covered 30%t of the movie’s production budget

NEVERTHELESS, many were annoyed by the Bond franchise ‘selling out . Skyfall has led to many dissatisfied ans expressing their frustration at the sight of James Bond electing to drink a Heineken beer rather than his signature vodka martini.
-Many argue there are specific products Ian Flemming (the author of the Bond books) included.

This is the Heineken commercial that sponsors Skyfall and used two of the main characters from the film.

Synergy: Coke Zero

Skyfall has had partnership with coke zero since the 'Quantum of Solace' film.

The chance to win ticket through the train station became viral and broke company records in terms of online views

-7.1M views on YouTube, 98% likes on YouTube and 832.3k shares through social networking (801.9k via Facebook, 29.8k tweets and 500 via blog posts)

  • The novel that the film is based on originated from Britain and the author (Ian Flemming) is English
  • The production company is British

How could if be an 'American Film'?

  • Many scenes were not filmed on location in Shanghai instead the virgin active pool in Canary Wharf acted as Bond's hotel pool in Shanghai
  • For the aerial footage of Shanghai, the crew received rare access to shoot from a helicopter on loan from the Chinese government - shows how conglomerates can use their money to afford this type of things that an independent company cannot
  • Production faced criticism for allegedly damaging building while filming the motorcycle chase across the rooftops in the city

Funding of Skyfall (Sony) and the budget

Sony (Sony Pictures Entertainment to be exact) is the main funder of the film alongside MGM. The two are co-financing the film, but Sony is also handling the marketing and distribution worldwide.

Nevertheless the shooting of Skyfall was delayed two years ago because of MGM's financial problems.

Sony will also benefit as its music label released the track 'Skyfall' that features a single from Adele. This hit also topped the iTunes charts after it launched.
